The more I look at the 1985 Super Mario Menko set, I seem to find new discoveries. There has been a lot of chatter about the banning of Mario giving the Peace Sign. This particular 1985 Menko shows Mario giving the Peace Sign. This may not seem unfamiliar to us know, but if you think about it, Mario didn't make the Peace Sign in the original Super Mario Bros game. I believe the first game where Mario used the Peace Sign was in Super Mario World. These 1985 Menkos are depicting and promoting the original Super Mario Bros game. The 1986 Japanese box art for Super Mario Bros II (The Lost Levels) shows Mario giving the Peace Sign (or symbolizing the second game). So, why are we seeing Mario give the Peace Sign in this 1985 Menko for the original Super Mario game? And better yet, giving the Peace Sign in a game play scene, not cover box art.
Its safe to say, this Menko from 1985 is the first time Mario gave his iconic Peace Sign to the world.
